Halloween IT

Hello, today is halloween, which means i’m going trick or treating! I’m going with Dakota, I have never gone trick or treating before so i’m so excited! I want to wear a blow up alien costume, and i’m excited to see all the costumes and Halloween decorations. I hope I get a full bucket of candy. This is what I wanted to wear.

Are you going trick or treating? If so what are you wearing?

This is what I wanted to wear.

Science Expo IT

Hello, on Wednesday the year 6’s went to the High School at 12:45 PM to learn about what Smoking and Vaping does to your body. I was in a car with Sophie, Meia and Tara, on the way there and back. First we watched a small video about the causes and what it does to your thinking. Next, Craig, the guy who was teaching us about it, ran through how the plant got everywhere, and how they found out it was bad for you. He also showed us charts about how much people started smoking and vaping. After we got free time to walk around and look at the stuff, there was Smoking Roullete, arange the body, and take a picture and see how you would look in a few years. The session was 45 minutes long so we left at 1:45.

Have you learnt about the science of smoking and vaping?

Protest IT

Hello, this week for reading we have been learning about New Zealands biggest/most important protests. The protest I did was Womans Suffrage Petiton 1893, I worked with Peyton. We had four questions we had to answer by finding stuff in the text and researching on Google, then we had to find some other information if we wanted. This afternoon we will presentate our protest and answer lots of questions about it.

These are the most important points.

  • Over 25,000 women signed this Petiton, Kate Sheppard was the one who lead it.
  • Men argued a women’s proper place was at home.
  • On September 19, 1893 they were able to start voting.
  • Some of the men were on the women’s side for the suffrage.
  • The women wanted to be able to vote, aswell as go out and get jobs instead of staying home.
  • New Zealand was the first country to allow women to vote.

Have you ever learnt about Womans Suffrage?

IT Weaving art

Hello last term on the last 3 days we decided to do weaving art, first we had to pick a Maori shape, then we had to draw it. I did a whale tail. Next we had to draw lines for our patterns, they had to be centered in with the middle of our shape. Next we had to use pastel, I made my whale tail pink and put lots of layers on so it looked better. Then we put colors on the background, first on the lines you would put the brightest to the lightest. Next we got a ruler and put it on some areas of our art, then we would cut it with a craft knife. After we would get skewers and go under, over, under, over for a pattern so they looked better. Then they all got hung up on the wall. The hardest part was cutting the paper because I cut my finger.

Have you ever made weaving art?

Bridge Valley Camp 2025 IT

Last week we had Camp, we left on Tuesday and got back on Friday. The trip was 4 hours long and we had one stop at Reefton for lunch. When we got there the first thing we did was wait for the people and then have the tour. After we unpacked and got settled int0 our cabins, there was some free time to explore the camp, then at 1:30 we had lunch. Once we were finished our lunch we went to the field to do the first activity, the top team. After that we had Afternoon Tea for 30 minutes and then we got ready for the Hydroslide/free time, once that was done we had about 30 minutes to get in the shower and change, then we went to dinner. Our first dinner was Burgers, I only got cheese with mine. After dinner time we had an hour for freetime and then we played Spotlight. After Spotlight we had supper and then at 9:30 it was lights out. At 8:00 we had breakfast and had our first activity, mine was Low Ropes, it was quite fun even though it was just balancing. We had some morning tea then jumped right into activity two, which was Lake Flying Fox. It was so fun and I did it 5 times. Once that was done we had our lunch and did our last activity of the day, the Burma Trail/Condifence Course, it took a long time to get through because we were blindfolded. By the time I was done it was raining so I headed inside. Then later we did this activity to find numbers and crack the code, unfortunately we didn’t win. We had our afternoon tea and it was free time/Waterslide. The Waterslide looked super fun and fast. Now it was dinner, we had pasta which was my favourite and then freetime. After that we watched Inside Out because it was raining so no one wanted to do spotlight. After we had supper and went to bed. The next day we woke up at 6:30, Meia and Sophie did a workout. It was super cold so I stayed in my bed. But then it was breakfast so I had to go down to the hall. After that I did my next activity, Absailing, we had to climb up this 10 meter tower and absail down. I was the last one to go down so it was pretty unlucky because you had to watch and hear if people cried or were scared. After that we did Slippery Pole, I liked that because you had to balance while trying to knock the other person off. I fell off so many times. And the last activity was Kayaking, I watched it and it looked fun but I didn’t do it. And the final team activity was a raft race, we had to make our own raft and get to go across the lake, then we had to come back and dismantle it. Our boat almost came 1st but instead we became last. We had Tacos for dinner and then we woke up nice and early and packed our stuff and got it in the cars, then at around 10:00 we left. And then we got back sometime around 2. My favourite activities were 1st Absailing, 2nd Slippery Pole, 3rd, Lake flying fox. Have you came on this camp before?

Indi Balloon Powered Cars!

For the last 3 weeks our class has been working on a new STEM project, called Balloon Powered Cars! Our goal is to have a car that can go at least 3 meters with a balloon attached to it. This is a Solo Project though so we didn’t work with anyone else. This is a friendly competion so we can ask others for help or materials. We got 3 weeks to make these the best we could, but I only started yesterday. There are extra points for looks though, mine is called the Cake Delivery, I made a cake out of pompoms and cotton. I didn’t use a bottle or a box, I used some cardboard and cut it out evenly because I had no materials, the hardest and most frustrating part was the wheels, I got straws and put skewers through them, then I had to put paint lids on for the wheels. Then I had to make it so the skewers would stick through so I could put Hot Glue on them to keep it on. I’m hoping I get at least 3 meters, there is my car there. Have you ever made a Balloon Powered Car?

Indi Perspective Art

For the last 2 weeks our class have been doing a cool type of art called Perspective Art. Perspective Art is where it looks 3D, we first draw a dot in the middle of the page, this dot will mark our Vanishing point, the point that makes it look far away. Next we rule off lines that go through the vanishing point, to make a long hall, the smaller the line, the smaller stuff gets, that creates the 3D affect. We then rule lines on the sides of the walls and on to ground, we make checkered floors and we follow the rule, closer to the Vanishing point means it needs to be smaller then usual. Then we color in the checkered floor. Once that’s done we make all lines darker to show more affect, then we start to think about what we want our room to be. You could do anything you wanted, but the main two was a Zoo or a Aquarium, I personally did a Aquarium because a Zoo would be too hard. Once we drawed our stuff we could pick wether to Crayon and Dye or to Color with pens or pencils. I am gonna do the pencils, but most of the class is doing Crayon And Dye. Then we cut out some parts and it’ll be done. This is how my one looks and how it should look. Have you ever done Perspective Art?

Comp box IT

For the last couple weeks we have done Comp Box. It is a part of reading and it is super fun. You have to answer 7 questions about the story and then the teacher marks them. We do this while the other people go to Kapa Haka. This week I did Major Blink, a story about a superhero that describes how he gets the bad guys to apoligise, and how to draw him. The seven questions have to be answered in more then 1 sentence. Have you done them before?

Bags of hope IT

We have been making Bags Of Hope, Bags Of Hope are for people who have cancer. Bags Of Hope have lots of bright colors and things people would like, they also sometimes have a letter. These are for people to put their clothes, or other things in them. They also can make their day, mine had rainbows, happy flowers and a letter. Once they are done they will be given to someone with cancer. Have you ever made a Bag Of Hope?
